I’ve spent the last three weeks looking at how we at Eloqua view the world regarding Marketing Automation combined with Social Relationship Management. For this Chart of the Week, I thought it would be a good idea to pop my head out of the hole I’ve been working in and see if any of my assumptions are off the mark.
I dove right in to the 2013 Social Media Marketing Industry Report from SocialMediaExaminer. What I love most about this report is that it is based on a survey of 3,000+ marketers, people like you and me. This report is definitely not a naval gazing exercise by a self-proclaimed expert on a bully pulpit.
The one thing that shocked me the most was the overwhelming majority of marketers are still trying to decide on the social basics. These 5 questions are being asked by almost all marketers right now:
- What social tactics are most effective?
- What are the best ways to engage my audience with social media?
- How do I measure the return on my social media investment?
- What are the best social management tools?
- How do I create a social strategy?

These same types of questions came up on a customer call I had earlier this week. I was a little surprised, thinking surely they were the exception. Apparently not. The good news is most of us are in the same boat.
