Tracking: Understanding how to link to assets (passing parameters) from emails

Hello fellow Eloquans,

I'm a newbie trying to figure out the basics and while I took several trainings, I have to confess that until you actually get your hands dirty, you don't really know what you don't know. So... I'm trying to find documentation to understand how to link different assets (landing pages, specific files like PDFs, etc.) from the email source. I'm currently uploading all the email html and I cannot use the WYSIWYG email designer because I have no templates in the system (yet) and I'm forced to use a certain design that we know works fine in different email clients.

I know the basic parameter to ensure tracking of external urls (?elqTrack=true) but my question is around Eloqua "native" objects.

In my emails I want to link to the assets and ensure I'm passing the proper info. I could find some info but not all I was looking for and I'm not sure I'm passing all the needed parameters.

This is what I discovered so far:

1) Basic linking:To link to a specific landing page, I'd use http://domain-goes-here.com/LP=110?elqCampaignId=90 but when I click that in my test email, the Campaign ID is not correctly passed, so I presume something is wrong. (?)

2) More advanced linking: In some other messages (created by other users) I saw the links referenced like this:

http://domain-goes-here.com/vanity-here?elq=~~eloqua..type--emailfield..syntax--recipientid~~&elqCampaignId=~~eloqua..type--campaign..campaignid--0..fieldname--id

Anyone knows what all these parameters mean and what's missing (if any at all), any formal documentation on parameters?

?elq=~~eloqua..type--emailfield..syntax--recipientid~~&elqCampaignId=~~eloqua..type--campaign..campaignid--0..fieldname--id

Thank you very much!
