I recently noticed that email groups set up for Engage do not adhere to contact's subscription preferences. Why is that?
We don't use Eloqua's Global system unsubscribe/subscribe capability since we need to use Eloqua to send transactional emails. Those transactional email need to be sent to contacts who are optouts. So we are forced to manage this level of unsubscribe via a Contact attribute. In order to allow Sales to use Engage, we needed to build a program to update the Engage user group to unsubscribe all of our opt out contacts which is stored at that contact attribute. When we tested this, unsubscribed contacts still got the email from Engage. This is actually a show stopper for us. We can't have Sales email contacts who have opted out.
