Is anyone else having issues when a text field field merge is pulling in a date format?

Hello, I've set up a field merge to pull in a TEXT field that contains a month and day--for example, November 14--but when the email is sent the text in the email shows 14/11/2014 instead of November 14. The contact field is set up as a TEXT field and not a DATE field. If anyone has any ideas around this I would love to hear them.
